Alkis Barbas
// Άλκις Μπάρμπας
Alkis grew up as a dancer in the cultural scene of Thessaloniki, Greece and later moved to the Netherlands to follow a bachelor of dance in Arnhem. He’s working professionally as an interdisciplinary performer since the end of the lockdowns in 2021. Alongside the dance training, he has explored various ways of training that maintain and grow avail-abilities of the body and mind, while keeping both healthy.
Since 2022 Alkis has taught movement-based workshops for non-professionals in Thessaloniki (studio 29a) and the Netherlands (Vasim Circus Space, de Basis, Dansplats Arnhem). His international debut as a facilitator begun in Italy at “Rhythm and Moves Festival” by Partner Acrobatics. Alkis has been growing into an experienced spaceholder by hosting Contact Improv jams monthly and since September 2024 he has initiated a weekly Contact Improv class with great success. The classes offer the chance both for improving the dance experience of the local dancers as well as offering a structural meeting place and time to bond and grow together.
“In my practice and in my class, I place care highly in my priorities, without compromising the search for excitement and individual limits. I’ve seen that learning in a playful way allows even dancers with different experience levels to enjoy and grow together. In between all that play, I make sure to make space for reflection and introspection, and have you leave the class energized and inspired”
